LASIK (Laser in Situ Keratomileusis) is a surgical procedure that uses a laser to correct vision problems, such as hypermetropia, myopia, blurry vision and astigmatism. The process involves reshaping the cornea, the clear, round dome at the front of the eye so that light entering the eye is focused correctly on the retina, the light-sensitive layer of cells at the back of the eye. This can improve vision and reduce or eliminate the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses. Most people experience significant improvement in their vision within a day or two after the procedure.
